How to find us
We’re located on Graythwaite Estate on the south-west shore of Lake Windermere between Newby Bridge and Hawkshead. The estate spans 5,000 acres and if you search ‘Graythwaite’ or follow the postcode, it will take you to the main hall which is very lovely but not where you need to be.
We run two sites on the estate.
One for everything land-based; 4×4 off-road driving, clay pigeon shooting, archery, axe throwing and bushcraft.
- The 4×4 and Shooting site is here (Google maps). If you have the what3words app please use ///dabbing.bearable.clockwork to find the entrance to the shooting site.
- The entrance to the field is not suitable for some lowered vehicles with limited ground clearance. If this is the case, please use the layby 50m north of the entrance and arrive by foot.
The other for watersports (April to October), at Grubbins Point.
- You’ll find watersports here (Google maps). If you have the what3words app please use ///cracking.loom.dangerously to find the entrance to the watersports drive.
- Please note, the track through the woods to the lake shore can be a little rough in places but is perfectly accessible.
Both entrances are on the lake side of the main Hawkshead road, less than ½ a mile apart. Look out for our Graythwaite Adventure signage. There’s free guest parking at both sites.
Depending upon your group size we’re happy to arrange transport from your home or holiday accommodation.
A fun way to travel from Bowness or Windermere, on the opposite side of the lake, is to jump on the car ferry. It takes 10 minutes, and runs back and forth all day every day (weather permitting). Please note, it can be busy with longer waiting times during the holidays.
We’d be delighted to pick you up anywhere on the shores of Windermere by RIB and transport your party to Graythwaite Estate.
We have a helicopter landing site on the estate should this be your chosen mode of transport.
Continue along the B5825 to Hawkshead. From Hawkshead, follow signs towards Newby Bridge. Stay on this road for roughly 5 miles.
You’ll pass Esthwaite Water Fishery on your left, then Graythwaite Sawmill on your right before the entrance to Graythwaite Hall, also on your right.
For the 4×4 & Shooting site;
- After 1/4 mile, on a funny bend you’ll see our entrance on the left. Please click here for Google maps.
- Please kindly close the gate behind you, to avoid cows escaping – don’t worry, they won’t bother you.
- Follow the track through the field where you’ll find parking, and us.
For the Watersports site;
- After ½ mile you’ll see an entrance with stone pillars on your left (signed Hullet Hall), with a red post box in the wall.
- Turn in here, bear right and follow the track through the woods down to the lake shore. Please click here for Google maps.
Follow signs towards Lakeside and continue on the B5825 towards Hawkshead.
You’ll pass the YMCA Centre on your right then Silverholme Manor, also on your right.
