Lake District Canoeing Lessons and Canoe Hire
WATERSPORTS IS NOW CLOSED UNTIL APRIL 2024. We’re open all year round for land-based activities though 🙂 – go check them out.
What a wonderful summer we had – thank you to everyone who joined us in the 2023 season. The kit is hibernating and we’ve left Grubbins Point to recover over the winter from all the fun and frolics from the summer. We’re back open for watersports in April 2024.
Journeying in these Canadian style boats is the ultimate in relaxation as you paddle around the small islands and bays off Graythwaite Estate’s private shoreline.
For experienced canoers or complete novices, the benefits of an instructed canoeing session are that you’ll master the basic strokes quickly and journey with ease to make the most of your session. We’ll also be with you for safety support for added confidence. We require at least one adult in your party, but not necessarily taking part. The lessons are 1.5 hours long.
Or you may opt for canoe hire if you’ve paddled before. We’re happy to hire canoes to water confident first-timers too. We require at least one adult in your party to be on the water. You can opt for one hour or two hours, or you may prefer a half-day canoeing adventure around Lake Windermere.
What better place to canoe than England’s largest lake, in the heart of the Lake District National Park; Lake Windermere? As with all our experiences, this will be a private booking for your party if you book a lesson.
The watersports centre is a ‘pop-up’, from April to October and at the end of the season, we pack up, leave no trace and allow Grubbins Point peace and quiet over the winter before all the fun starts again next year. With no electricity or running water, we run purely on our inner energy and sunshine. Click on the below links for more information and to book.
PLEASE NOTE; we don’t take online bookings for same day / next day watersports LESSONS in case we’re inundated and unable to staff them so for lesson bookings within 48 hours, please call or email your enquiry and hopefully we’ll be able to fit you in :). For HIRES, please feel free to book away. 🙂

Group size: minimum 1 guest
Duration: 1.5 hour instructed session / hire only from 1 hour
Minimum age: 4
1.5 hour instructed session:
1 person – £80.00
2 people – £60.00 per person
3 people – £45.00 per person
4 – 10 people – £35.00 per person then £30.00 per person for 11 – 14 people
Hire only:
There must be at least 1 adult on the water to supervise
1 hour – £27.50 per boat
2 hours – £32.50 per boat
4 hours – £42.50 per boat
Please note, prices exclude a 4% booking fee, capped at £5.00 + VAT.
Booking
Watersports hub: we generally run our full-time, Lake Windermere watersports offering from the beginning of April to October.
What’s included; canoe, and a paddle and buoyancy aid for every guest, safety cover.
What to bring; your own wetsuit if you have one (or you can hire one from us) although not necessary unless you plan to swim, towel, swimwear, wet shoes or trainers you don’t mind getting wet and a change of clothes in case you get wet. It has been known that some people like to splash!
