Graythwaite

A unique experience.

The story of Graythwaite Estate is truly magical.

Graythwaite is a family-run country estate spanning 5,000 acres of the English Lake District. It’s rich in history, heritage and literary connections and continues to support a thriving community to this day.

The Sandys family have lived at Graythwaite for some 500 years, since the first Graythwaite Hall was built, and continue to be immensely hands on with the day to day running.

The family founded and continue to govern the nearby Hawkshead Grammar School where the young William Wordsworth attended. Beatrix Potter described the estate as ‘theatrical’ and made Esthwaite Hall home to her character Jeremy Fisher, the gentleman frog.  Esthwaite Hall still sits within the family estate.

Since the 1980’s some of the Estate’s properties have been lovingly transformed into holiday cottages.  The Estate now boasts a fine collection of traditional Lakeland built cottages accommodating 4 to 18 guests in the majestic Silverholme, a 5-star Georgian manor house, so there’s somewhere to stay to suit many a couple, family, group of friends or occasion.
